AMP isn’t a company I’ve had a lot to deal with, other than occasionally visiting the AMP Insurance website to get a car, home or contents insurance quote.
I’m a little weird about buying insurance from a company that is best known for something else. Wikipedia describes AMP as a “financial services company in Australia and New Zealand providing superannuation and investment products, financial advice and banking products including home loans and savings accounts.”
It’s not just AMP that I feel this for:
Compare this to AA Insurance, Tower, State, and AMI all being creating with the sole purpose of selling insurance, and doing it really well.
If you just want to know the key facts about AMI we’ve condensed them down into the bite-sized bullet points below.
There were few AMP reviews on discussion forms, but a few comments here and there. One user on Reddit pointed out '"AMP general insurance is underwritten by Vero and AMP do not handle claims themselves - the claims process is controlled by Vero". She goes on to explain "I don't have any personal experience with their claims process, but I've known people who worked there and the company has a good reputation in the industry."
Another user wrote "try AMP Insurance through an AMP adviser. The policy wording is almost identical to Vero's, but with a slight price advantage. Both are underwritten by Suncorp/Vero".
Sure do, it’s 0800 100 200.
Visit their website using any of the links on this page and you’ll be able to lodge a claim, or call their 0800 number as seen above.
AMI Insurance is owned by Insurance Australia Group (IAG). This is the same company that owns State Insurance, and NZI.
The easiest way to get a quote from AMI Insurance is to visit their website. They also have an 0800 number, but we find things are easier (and faster) online. In 2020 AMI closed all their branches, so if you are used to visiting them in-store, you’ll now have to call or do it online.
AMI was founded in 1926 in Christchurch, New Zealand.
IAG (owner of AMI Insurance) announced on 23rd July 2020 that they will be closing their 53 branches.
The AMI website states that they have over 500,000 customers.
We compare a wide range of products and brands across the insurance industry.
But while the range of insurance products compared is always growing, Compare.org.nz doesn’t compare all products and brands in the market. Visit Google to find a more complete range of products or brands that may be more suitable for you.
